Atlético shakes up the market and leaves Barça without its star: 'he's already signed...'

A key footballer from La Liga opts for Atlético de Madrid and is the first to reject Barça

Barcelona, after a season of consolidation under Hansi Flick's direction, faces a transfer market where not all targets are realized. Despite its prestige and appeal following a great season, some players choose other destinations in search of greater opportunities or more prominence on the field. In that sense, both Hansi Flick and Deco are working to find profiles that can fit into the play style the German coach wants to consolidate and accept his conditions.

One of the profiles that had been considered with interest by the coaching staff is in La Liga, specifically at Villarreal. This star's season has been remarkable, both for his ability to create play between the lines and for his talent to assist. Although he wasn't a priority, he was an interesting alternative to add depth to the squad, until Atlético Madrid appeared.

goodbye Barça, decided

According to the latest information, Álex Baena has chosen not to wait for the blaugrana club and already has a practically closed agreement to become a new player for Atlético Madrid. Diego Simeone has offered him a much more prominent role than he would have at Barça, where he would be more of a bench resource than a regular starter. Baena, aware that he needs continuity to keep growing and also consolidate himself in the Spanish national team, has chosen the rojiblanco project.

Moreover,  Atlético values his experience in La Liga and Simeone believes he would fit perfectly into what he seeks for his midfield. In fact, he sees him as the ideal heir to Antoine Griezmann and the perfect complement to Julián Álvarez, one of the star signings. Although the player himself never hid his admiration for Barça, the story has ended differently.

affordable operation

Despite Baena's release clause being 60 million euros, Villarreal had promised him a departure for a slightly lower figure as a sign of gratitude. Atlético, aware of this preferential path, has accelerated the negotiations and taken the lead over other interested parties, including Barça. At Camp Nou,  Baena's option has cooled as they couldn't guarantee him minutes or immediate prominence.

For Barcelona, Baena's decision represents a setback in their plans to strengthen the midfield. However, the club continues to explore other options in the market to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
