What you didn't see from Espanyol - Barça: League champions!

Title No. 28 for Barça, the third of the calendar year and with a stellar Lamine

Barcelona are league champions after defeating Espanyol 0-2 in the classic. The match, which had started with issues due to events outside the stadium, was very contested and intense. Espanyol had chances to take the lead, but their lack of finishing touch hindered the team, and Barça didn't forgive.

Many doubts

The Catalan classic started with Espanyol well-positioned in defense and Barça controlling the ball but without creating danger.  The 'perico' team had the clearest chances of this first half, two one-on-ones where a save by Szczęsny and a poor shot prevented the first goal. The white-and-blues were causing a lot of damage behind the blaugranas; moreover, they were managing not to fall into the offside trap.

Following those two scares, Flick's team increased the pace of the ball and began to approach the opponent's goal. However, Joan García didn't have to intervene too often, as what Barça lacked was accuracy in that final pass or shot. The most dangerous play was led by Lewandowski,  a shot from inside the area that went close to the post, after another combination play.

The draw would remain at halftime, a first half where the home team was better and Barça was uncomfortable and lacking rhythm.

Lamine is the best player in the world

Flick brought on Balde at halftime, seeking greater depth on the left flank, allowing the team to open up. The change had an effect because Barcelona started to create more chances, also due to the fatigue of Manolo González's team. Then Lamine appeared, unleashing a strike from the edge of the box, placing the ball right in the top corner.

With this result, Barça were league champions,  something that seemed closer with Cabrera's expulsion after assaulting Lamine himself. With one less player, the white-and-blue team sought the equalizer, but what came was the second culé goal. Recovery by '19' who, with the calmness of a veteran, assisted Fermín so the Andalusian could celebrate the goal that was disallowed in the Clásico.

Barça are crowned league champions with two games to spare, completing a great season. Flick and his team have won 3 titles in the first year he took charge of the blaugranas. That brilliant attacking play, which totals almost 100 goals (97), has made this Barça a team to watch every matchday.
