What You Didn't See From Barça - Rayo Vallecano: Leader's Victory

The blaugranas deliver and take first place after a great start in 2025

New victory for Flick's team in a match that was open for the entire 90 minutes. Rayo showed a great version, in line with their position, as they continue to fight for European spots. Great defensive work from the Culers who imposed themselves with composure on a night when their forwards weren't very sharp.

A Very Doubtful Action

Barça, aware of what was at stake in this match, went out to win it from the first moment. Pressure on the ball's exit, which was effective against a Rayo that couldn't string together several passes, losing possession easily. First Raphinha and then Lamine had the chance to open the scoring, but they encountered a great Batalla.

The goal wasn't going to come in play, but through a penalty caused by Íñigo at the exit of a corner.  Lewandowski was going to be the one to score that 1-0, with a cross shot that grazed the base of the post. The second was again for Lamine  with a shot from a few yards from the goal, but the Argentine goalkeeper appeared.

The Polish goalkeeper had to intervene on several occasions, making several merit-worthy saves. De Frutos was going to score the equalizer, however, it was going to be disallowed for offside by Nteka, who interfered with Íñigo. The final minutes had the Franjirrojos hovering around that 1-1, although without success in the final meters.

A Lot of Defensive Work

The second half of this match had few notable things,  Barça's controlled soccer in the first 20 minutes  and some chances for both teams. As time went on, the visitors were gaining presence in the opposing field, creating opportunities through Isi and Álvaro. The narrow result hinted at the possibility that they could lose those 3 points that made Barça the leader.

De Frutos had the best chance for Rayo, with a cross from Embarba, but his header went over the crossbar. The most notable of the match was Pedri, the Canarian magician was impeccable in defense and accurate in attack. Another who left several flashes of quality was Dani Olmo, the Spanish attacking midfielder seems ready for everything that comes.

Barça's very important victory allows them to take first place, tied on points with Real Madrid. The next match will be against Las Palmas, at the Canarian team's stadium, next Saturday at 9:00 PM. Meanwhile, Rayo Vallecano will face Villarreal, after having left a very good impression at the Lluís Companys.
