Not Rashford, not Luis Díaz, Barça take him from Chelsea: 'he's the best in the world'

The German coach has opened Barça's doors to a Chelsea and Manchester United outcast

Flick's FC Barcelona is already moving decisively in the transfer market with a fairly clear roadmap to prepare for the upcoming season. With the German coach leading the new project, the club is prioritizing strengthening certain key positions, and one of them is the winger. Flick and his coaching staff see it as urgent to find a reliable replacement to give Lamine Yamal and Raphinha some rest, the only natural wingers currently in the squad.

Ansu Fati's departure is practically finalized, and Ferran Torres has been repositioned as Robert Lewandowski's direct substitute in the center of the attack. That's why Deco and Laporta are considering several names to bring in a wide player who will accept a secondary role, but with enough quality to perform when needed. Beyond the list being managed at the highest levels of the club, Flick has found a name in the market that interests him and is a market opportunity.

Flick's alternative

In this context, the player who until recently seemed far from the Barça radar is Jadon Sancho. The English international hasn't managed to establish himself at Manchester United or during his recent loan at Chelsea, but Hansi Flick has assessed his profile positively and suggested his signing. At 25 years old, Sancho still has room to grow and would fit as a rotation option with experience at the European elite level.

Relegated by the Premier League giants, his contract situation and current status make him a market opportunity. Barça are considering bringing him in on loan, aware that the signings of Luis Díaz or Rafael Leao have become complicated due to their high costs. Sancho, with no place at United and willing to start anew, appears as a more accessible option.

Flick needs depth

For the German coach and his staff, having a third winger is a non-negotiable necessity. Lamine Yamal is a gem to protect, and Raphinha has performed well but can't carry the entire season's burden. The demands of the schedule require squad depth, especially in physically demanding positions like the wings.

Sancho, in this sense, fits the profile, age, and willingness to take on a complementary role. In addition, Barça value that Jadon is willing to accept his role without demanding a starting spot, something not all players at his level are willing to do. If his performance convinces Flick, the club wouldn't even rule out keeping him beyond the first year.
