Second Chances for Those Who Deserve Them

Destiny has given Barça a second chance in La Liga, and Flick's team can't waste it.

Mistakes don't understand age. You're never too old to make a mistake, but it's true that young people, whether due to lack of experience or excess impulsiveness, are more exposed to failure. Barça, as the precocious team it is, has stumbled on different occasions throughout this League, squandering a significant lead over Real Madrid to find themselves seven points below their eternal rival in the standings 90 days after the 0-4 at Bernabéu. A difference that seemed impossible to overcome. First, because Flick's team wasn't able to get out of the slump in domestic competition. Second, because Ancelotti's team seemed to have found the consistency they lacked in the first part of the season.

But sometimes, for those who don't give up, who keep working hard despite the circumstances, and above all, who keep believing in their possibilities, destiny offers a second chance. Because when you see a squad like Real Madrid's slipping away in the standings, you might be tempted to lower your head, to unconsciously reduce the intensity of your game, knowing that catching the leader is going to be practically impossible. This is where the success of Hansi Flick and his footballers lies, in the fact that they worked just as hard or harder when things weren't going well as when everything was going smoothly.

In 2025, FC Barcelona has played a total of 11 matches between Copa del Rey, League, Champions, and Supercopa de España without yet knowing defeat. A total of 9 wins and two draws with numbers that are once again scandalous; 42 goals for and 12 against. They have managed to return to their prime while patiently waiting for events to turn in their favor, and the stars have decided to align to reward Flick's team's good work. The consecutive stumbles of Real Madrid and Atlético have opened the doors to the party for a Barça that, initially, didn't have an invitation but was very eager to have fun. With this new scenario presented to us, with a blaugrana team that many weeks later once again depends on itself to be the League champion, let's see who dares not to label them as the favorite.

Realistically, the League is still complicated. First, because we have already seen the Barcelona team brush perfection this season, only to later go through a crisis that led them to earn just 6 out of 24 possible points, something that no one can assure won't happen again, especially with such a young team. Also, because there is no margin for error, the slightest stumble will make Barça once again not depend on itself, and that can weigh heavily on a psychological level. Lastly, because beyond the direct confrontations against the Merengues and Colchoneros in the upcoming rounds, the last two away games for the Culé team in the domestic competition will be at Cornellà - El Prat and San Mamés, two fields where Flick's players are not very welcome and where it's best not to be playing for too much.

Despite this, FC Barcelona has every right to dream, as they have risen against all odds when they seemed closest to a technical knockout. Today, of the top three, they are the ones transmitting the best sensations, there's no doubt about that, and no one beats them in enthusiasm and hunger. Thus, Hansi Flick's Barça has earned a second chance to fight for the League on their own merits, one of those granted only to those who truly deserve it through work and effort. We'll see if they can take advantage of it.
