Flick's Barça, still a contender for everything, arrives very short on strength at the final stretch of the season

Barça Begins to Show Signs of Exhaustion. The 2024/25 season has become a true marathon and, although Flick's team is heading into the final stretch of the race in first position, fatigue is starting to take its toll in the last few yards toward the finish line. It's no wonder, with one of the shortest squads in recent times, the blaugrana team is performing a true feat; maintaining real chances of lifting the Cup, League, and Champions. Only 10 matches separate FC Barcelona from potentially adding the third treble in its history, undoubtedly the most meritorious of the three, given the circumstances under which it would have been achieved. But the truth is that the sensations transmitted by the culé team are not good, too many survival exercises in a row for everything that lies ahead.

This slump has nothing to do with the one the team suffered in November and December. Now the matches are being won, with suffering, but they are being won. If they lose, as happened in Dortmund, they are defeats that do not affect the fight for a title. But it's clear that this Barça has nothing to spare. In the League, against Betis, Leganés, and Celta, a team far from the brilliance it had been showing in 2025 has been seen. Even so, 7 out of 9 possible points have been obtained, and the distance over Real Madrid has been increased by one unit. An unequivocal sign that Ancelotti's team, with the debacle against Arsenal in between, is also not in a position to celebrate.

To make matters worse, in a team with little depth and tired legs, the more than predictable muscle injuries are starting to appear. Losing Balde and Robert Lewandowski for the upcoming matches represents a real drama. Both have reliable replacements in the squad, as both Gerard Martín and Ferran Torres have shown they can provide quality minutes in the blaugrana line-up, but if you have to face Real Madrid and Inter twice in just two weeks, you always think about being able to face it with your best men on the field.

It's true that those who take on too much achieve little, a saying in which this Barça can see itself reflected if it goes in search of the three titles and doesn't win any. But it is also true that, having reached this point in the season with real chances of lifting a treble, it's impossible to set aside any competition. In two of them, League and Cup, putting them on the back burner would mean handing them on a silver platter to the eternal rival. In the other, the Champions, there are plenty of reasons to give everything to win it. So it's time to give it all and hope that the outcome of the 2024/25 campaign is not cruel to the team that has played the best soccer. Barça is indeed running on empty, but it will use every last drop of fuel to try to make history.
