Guardiola makes it clear, he's taking him from Barça this summer: Pedri has already said goodbye

Manchester City's coach wants to take him to the Premier League before ending his career in England

Pep Guardiola's cycle at Manchester City seems to be nearing its end. After several years of dominance in England and Europe, the Catalan coach has hinted that he'll take a break when he finishes his time at Etihad Stadium. It won't be an immediate farewell, but the English club is already working on its transition, with the idea that Guardiola will leave a renewed and competitive team before his departure.

The coach himself has acknowledged that the demands of these years have taken a toll on him. At 54 years old, he feels that he has completed a cycle in the Premier League and that he needs to stop. Even so, he wants to make sure his legacy remains alive, which is why he's actively participating in the squad planning for next season.

City is looking to rejuvenate certain positions and address shortcomings that became evident in the last campaign.

Guardiola's chosen one

That renewal plan features a name that has surprised many: Fermín López. The FC Barcelona midfielder, who's 21 years old, has become Guardiola's great desired signing to strengthen his last project in Manchester. The coach believes that his intensity, ability to get into the box, and work rate fit perfectly in the Premier League and in his play style.

City has already made a move. According to sources close to the situation, they're willing to offer €60 million, the amount that Barça has set as a reference to open talks. For the Catalan club, selling a homegrown player would be painful, but not impossible.

Above all, considering the need to generate revenue and the competition in midfield with Pedri, Gavi, and Frenkie de Jong as key players.

A transfer that shakes Barça

Fermín has made it clear that his priority is to succeed as a culé, but he understands that his future depends on the board's decision. Hansi Flick is counting on him, although Barça's financial reality and City's offer create a scenario of uncertainty. The footballer, who's been one of the revelations of the season, could become the big transfer of the summer if negotiations progress.

For Guardiola, it would be a strategic signing. The possible departure of Nico González, who hasn't adapted to Manchester City, would leave a vacancy in midfield. Fermín López represents qualities that the coach considers essential to leave a team ready to compete even after his departure.

The outcome is expected in the coming weeks, and everything suggests that this could be Pep's last desired signing before he closes his cycle in England.
