Major surprise with Marc Guiu: one year later he returns to Barcelona, in exchange for...

La Masia's '9' could leave Chelsea this very summer

Just a year ago, Marc Guiu made one of the most important decisions of his career by leaving Barça to sign for Chelsea. The young striker, one of the greatest prospects from the Barça academy, chose to head to London convinced that, with Lewandowski, his chances of getting playing time would be scarce.

Chelsea, always alert to young European talents, offered him an attractive project and a chance to grow in the Premier League. However, the move was risky, since leaving La Masia to compete in such a demanding environment as English soccer was not an easy bet. Even so, the player's entourage believed that leaving was the best option to advance his career.

The plan hasn't gone as he expected

However, the plan hasn't worked out as he expected. With Enzo Maresca as coach, the young striker has had very little playing time in Chelsea's first team. Although he has been part of the squad, he has only played in 14 official matches throughout the season.

Still, despite the few opportunities, his numbers haven't been bad at all. In those 14 games, Marc has managed to score 6 goals, which shows his effectiveness and ability to make the most of every minute on the field. He hasn't gone unnoticed, and in England there is consensus that he has a knack for scoring, but he needs consistency to develop.

Espanyol emerges as a destination

Given this scenario, everything suggests that Marc Guiu could go out on loan this summer in search of the playing time he hasn't had. Chelsea is willing to facilitate his departure so he can gain experience and consistency in a competitive environment. According to El Nacional, one of the teams most interested in signing him is RCD Espanyol.

The Perico club is looking to strengthen its attack with a young profile, with potential and the ability to score. Guiu fits perfectly into that description. His arrival would be seen as an opportunity both for the player and for the team, which needs goals to secure its place in the elite.

The return to Barcelona

If this loan deal goes through, Marc Guiu would return to Barcelona just one year after leaving Barça. However, he would do so to wear Espanyol's jersey, the eternal city rival of the culés. A curious twist of fate that, without a doubt, wouldn't go unnoticed by the fans of both teams.

Although he wouldn't return to Barça, his return to the Catalan capital could give him the visibility and playing time he needs to relaunch his career. In a familiar environment, with less pressure than in London, Guiu would have a new opportunity to show why he was considered one of La Masia's gems.
