Lewandowski fears for his position: Barça prepares €100M to sign Messi's friend

Barça prepare for a change in the forward line

Robert Lewandowski has informed the club that he will fully honor his contract, which ends in summer 2026. At 36 years old, Lewandowski has decided to continue for another year at Barça. His commitment to the team and his goal-scoring performance remain essential to the project, and the Polish player feels ready.

This way, Barça already knows which forwards it will count on for the next season: Robert Lewandowski will be the starter, and Ferran Torres will act as his natural replacement. For now, the sports management doesn't plan to sign another forward for that position in the short term.

Barça will sign a TOP player in 2026

Although Robert Lewandowski's continuity provides some leeway, Barça is very clear that in the summer of 2026, there will indeed be a significant change in the forward line. The club considers that this will be the ideal time to introduce a new star forward, who will lead the offensive project in the following years alongside Lamine Yamal.

In this regard, the first strategic moves have already been initiated to sign the ideal successor in 2026. By then, it is expected that Barça will have more salary leeway and the capacity to undertake a major signing.

Laporta's favorite

Julián Álvarez seems to have emerged as the great favorite. The Argentine, who signed with Atlético de Madrid in the summer, has been closely followed by Barça since his time at River Plate and later at City. His tactical intelligence, associative ability, and goal-scoring instinct fit perfectly with what the club is looking for to lead the attack starting in 2026.

Barça would be willing to attempt his signing next summer when Lewandowski's contract ends. The operation would be around 100 million, a high figure, but considered manageable if important sales are achieved and key salaries are freed up. The club trusts that Julián would be willing to accept the challenge of leading Barça into a new era.

The great alternative

However, in case the operation for Julián Álvarez doesn't prosper, the sports management also wants Alexander Isak. The Swedish forward from Newcastle is also a player that is very much liked by the club.

If Isak doesn't leave the English club this summer, Barça could attempt his signing in 2026, as long as Julián is not available. Alexander Isak has a contract and a high cost, but his experience in the Premier and his goal-scoring performance make him a very attractive option. Barça wants to ensure that, whatever happens, Lewandowski's replacement is up to the task.
