Confirmed, Liverpool will pay the €60M, he's leaving Barça: de Jong is to blame

The blaugrana side is trying to make room for the signing of the Athletic Club player

Barça has decided to strengthen its attack this summer with a new left winger to complement Raphinha. In the club's offices, the name that initially convinced the most was Luis Díaz. The Colombian from Liverpool was the priority for both Deco and Flick.

Luis Díaz fits perfectly into the profile Barça is looking for, with experience at the elite level, constant unpredictability, and the ability to decide matches. However, the high cost of the operation and Liverpool's determination not to negotiate below astronomical figures have forced the blaugrana club to explore other options.

Nico Williams offers himself and changes the plans

It was then that an unexpected turn shook the plans of the sporting management. Nico Williams offered himself through his agent, who requested a meeting with Deco during last season. This move sparked strong interest among the blaugrana leadership, especially in Joan Laporta, who was impressed by the player's willingness.

Nico's attitude and his desire to wear Barça's jersey have changed the club's approach. Laporta, who wants to restore excitement to the fans with high-profile signings, has come to consider Nico as his new great obsession.

In addition, there is an emotional component that Laporta doesn't want to miss. Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal, teammates on the Spanish national team, keep a great friendship and chemistry both on and off the field. The president envisions a Barça with both wingers dominating the flanks, bringing electricity, talent, and spectacle for the next decade.

The Nico-Lamine tandem would be one of the most promising in soccer, and Laporta wants Camp Nou to vibrate again with players who connect emotionally with the stands like they do.

Araujo, the key to freeing up salary space

However, in order to make any signing, Barça needs to return to the 1:1 rule of Financial Fair Play. This means it must bring in a significant amount of money that allows it to register new contracts without restrictions. In this regard, the club's management has identified Ronald Araujo as the key piece to facilitate this goal.

The Uruguayan center-back, with a strong international market, could bring in between €50 and €60 million ($54 million and $65 million) to the blaugrana coffers. Although his departure would be painful, the club considers his transfer the most viable solution to address the signing of Nico Williams.
