Nico Williams sets the final condition to sign: 'I'll only accept if he leaves Barça'

Barça's president can make a move he didn't make last summer and in return sell a star player

FC Barcelona has made a strong decision regarding one of the most promising names in its squad. Despite the expectations caused by his signing, Dani Olmo hasn't managed to establish himself as a standout player on the team. Injuries, lack of consistency, and performance below what was desired have motivated the management to put him on the market.

Joan Laporta is disappointed with the Catalan footballer's performance. While he understands that Dani Olmo's technical skills are unquestionable, his impact on the field hasn't been the desired one. The president himself believes that Barça can't keep supporting such a valuable figure without the continuity that a club like the culé demands from its stars.

Meanwhile, Hansi Flick has counted on him in various parts of the season, however, the lack of competitive rhythm and physical problems have limited his prominence. This situation has led the sports management to set a minimum exit price: 70 million euros. A figure that surprises many, considering that Dani hasn't managed to stand out with decisive numbers.

modest figures for a star signing

Nico would have set as a condition for his arrival that he will only sign if Olmo leaves the club or if another major sale occurs that allows generating the necessary salary margin. This demand responds to the need for economic and administrative guarantees that ensure his incorporation immediately and without setbacks. Thus avoiding being in a situation of uncertainty regarding his registration in the squad.

At 27 years old, Olmo has played 36 official matches with FC Barcelona during the current season. He has scored 11 goals and provided 5 assists, records that fall short for a player of his experience and level. The club expected much more from a footballer who arrived as a sure bet to strengthen the offensive front.

The intention to sell him doesn't come from the player's desire, quite the opposite, Dani Olmo is comfortable in the Catalan city and doesn't plan to leave Barcelona. He believes he can give more, but the club's sports and financial decisions are above individual preferences.  Barça needs to free up salary mass and generate income, and the sale of the Terrassa player fits into that logic.

mistakes won't be repeated

The financial situation of the blue and red entity forces drastic measures. Laporta doesn't want to repeat past mistakes and prefers to make difficult decisions rather than keep players who don't offer performance in line with their market value. In this context, any offer equal to or greater than 70 million could accelerate his departure.

One of the major interested parties is Bayer Leverkusen, the German team, current Bundesliga champion, is closely following Dani Olmo's situation. If they finally lose Florian Wirtz this summer, the Spaniard is one of the main candidates to replace him. His experience in the Bundesliga and his offensive versatility fit perfectly into Xabi Alonso's plans.

Dani Olmo already excelled at Red Bull Leipzig, and he wouldn't mind a return to Germany if he doesn't have space in Flick's project. Even so, everything will depend on the concrete offers that arrive at Camp Nou and the player's real willingness to change scenery. For now, Barça has already sent a clear message: if someone wants him, they will have to pay dearly.
