Tension at Barça, the signing falls through: Lamine Yamal demands it, but Flick doesn't want it

A market star is desperate to wear the blaugrana jersey, but the Barça coach is not convinced about signing him

In Barcelona's offices, they keep shaping the first team squad for next season with a clear idea: to keep the youngest and most talented players. In addition, the sporting management also has the guideline of avoiding unnecessary moves in areas they already consider covered. Hansi Flick has conveyed since his arrival that the priority is to strengthen the full-back positions and lighten the squad, especially in the attacking area, where there are already several established players.

With Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Ferran Torres, the coaching staff believes the attacking front has enough quality, potential, and versatility. Certainly, that vision has influenced the club's recent decisions in the transfer market. Even more so when certain operations were already mapped out in Barcelona's roadmap.

Insists on joining Barça

Despite the situation in the club's offices, Marcus Rashford has insisted on his intention to join Barcelona. The Manchester United forward has communicated to his inner circle and some intermediaries his desire to wear the blaugrana jersey this summer. He believes a change of scenery would allow him to regain his best form and that he would fit into a young and highly competitive team.

However, neither Hansi Flick nor the sporting management are considering signing him. Although the Englishman would be willing to lower his salary demands, the German coach doesn't consider him a priority either tactically or structurally. Rashford's arrival would involve a cost and a complicated fit in a squad that is practically already defined offensively.

Nico Williams changes everything

The addition of Nico Williams further strengthens this plan. His speed, ability to unbalance, and capacity to break lines make him an ideal complement for Lamine and Lewandowski. Unless there's a surprise, his signing will become official in the coming days and he will be the last addition to the attacking area.

With Ferran, Lamine, Raphinha, and Lewandowski, Barça believes it doesn't need any more attacking players. Any additional move will depend on departures or exceptional circumstances. For now, that's not the case with Rashford.
