Official, He Will Wear the '10' and It's NOT Lamine Yamal: Messi Chooses His Successor at Barça

Messi's Legacy Already Has a Successor: Barça Finds Their New Leader on the Field

The '10' of FC Barcelona is not just any number. It represents a golden era dominated by Lionel Messi, the best footballer in the club's history. For more than a decade, he turned every match into a work of art.

His departure in 2021 marked the end of an unforgettable era. The fans were left without idols and the club, without its most powerful symbol. That emotional and symbolic void is still felt at Camp Nou.

Years of Uncertainty After Leo's Departure

Since Messi's departure, Barça hasn't managed to establish a new '10'. Ansu Fati tried, but injuries and pressure prevented him from shining. No one has truly lived up to that legacy.

Joan Laporta then decided not to push the matter further. The club needed time to find the right heir.  Today, that search has come to an end.

Laporta, after weeks of conversations with Flick and Deco, has given the final order.  The '10' will be back in play next season. It has a name: Pedri.

The Canary Islander represents everything Barça wants to convey to the world. Talent, humility, sacrifice, and leadership from the midfield.  At 21 years old, he already acts as the team's engine.

Why Not Lamine Yamal?

Although many pointed to Lamine Yamal as the natural successor, the club has been cautious.  They don't want to burden the young player with such a symbolic responsibility so soon. The goal is to protect him and let him grow without pressure.

With Pedri, the situation is different. He has been taking on responsibilities and performing at the highest level for years. He is ready to wear the number that marked the club's modern history.

The squad has received the decision with enthusiasm.  Pedri is loved and respected by his teammates. Even more experienced players see him as the true reference for the future.

Flick has also given his approval. The German coach believes Pedri fits the profile of the new Barça leader. The jersey with the '10' is already prepared and just needs to be made official.

The announcement will be made at the end of the season in a symbolic act. It will be the starting point of a new era. Barça wants to compete for everything again with a young and committed squad.

The '10' will be more than a jersey. It will be a message to the soccer world: Barça is back. It has its new architect on the field.

Marketing, Identity, and Projection

The club also values the media impact of the move.  Pedri is already a global figure, and with the '10' on his back, his image will multiply. He will be the face of a new Barça generation.

On a commercial level, an increase in jersey sales and brand visibility is expected. But the most important thing is the sports symbolism. Messi left a legacy, and now Pedri takes it on with responsibility and pride.

Barça has suffered a lot in recent years. But with decisions like this, it shows that it knows where it's going. Laporta not only looks at the present but also projects an ambitious future.

The Canary Islander will have the mission to lead the team in the coming years. It won't be easy, but there's no one better than him to take on the challenge. The '10' has an owner again.
