It's official, Guardiola takes the new Messi: Barça says goodbye to its star

The board of the Catalan club already takes for granted that Guardiola will take the player most similar to Leo Messi

Barça's sporting management remains alert to the market in search of young talents who can make a difference on the field in the near future. In the midst of a squad renewal process, where Deco and company are prioritizing both competitiveness and economic sustainability, several prospects have been closely monitored. Especially those who have shined this season, capable of providing creativity, flair, and imbalance, something that has characterized the culé style.

Among the ideas considered by Joan Laporta and Deco  was the possibility of bringing in a player with a profile very similar to Leo Messi in his youth. In recent months, there was a lot of excitement about this prospect who, although not a priority, was highly regarded in Barça's offices. Deco even recommended signing him due to the similarities he saw with the Argentine star, although everything seems to indicate that his destination, ultimately, is the Premier League.

Moves away from Barça

The player in question is Rayan Cherki, who is about to sign with Manchester City, leaving FC Barcelona with no options. The Olympique de Lyon striker had regained his best form this season and became one of the most important revelations, attracting the attention of Europe's top clubs. At 22 years old, Cherki shows a lot of talent, unpredictability, and a quality that brought him very close to Barça's style.

The Catalan club had him on their radar, especially if departures like Pablo Torre or Ansu Fati were finalized. His price, just €22 million, made him a market opportunity. However, the interest wasn't enough against Manchester City's offensive, who will sign him to cover De Bruyne's imminent departure.

Barça miss out on another gem

Cherki's signing by Manchester City impacts the club not only for what it represents on a sporting level. Once again, it symbolizes an opportunity that slips away in a context where Barça can't compete economically with other elite teams. The Frenchman was seen as one of the best options for his one-on-one ability and vision of the game, but he moves away from the financial reality.

Instead, Pep Guardiola will be the one who can enjoy his talent, while at Can Barça they'll have to keep exploring other alternatives. The commitment to talent at the Catalan club remains strong. If they don't act quickly, more talents could move definitively away from Camp Nou.
