Nico Williams Reveals His New Team Just Before Inter's Return: 'I'm Going to the...'

Barça Remains in the Race for One of the Most Desired Wingers in the Market

Nico Williams has become one of the standout names in Spanish soccer. His season with Athletic Club has been brilliant, gaining importance both in his team and in the National Team. At just 21 years old, he has proven to be an unbalancing winger, fast and with great game reading.

Many clubs in Europe are following his steps. Among them, FC Barcelona, which already tried to sign him last summer. However, the club's economic problems prevented it at that time.

Nico renewed with Athletic, but he did so with a moderate release clause.  He knew the time would come to make a leap. That moment seems to have arrived.

An Unexpected Halt from London

In recent months, Arsenal has been the most insistent club. Mikel Arteta sees him as an ideal signing to strengthen the wings. They even seriously considered paying the 60 million of his clause.

But in recent weeks, the enthusiasm has cooled. Internally, the London club has started to debate whether that expense is appropriate now. The performance of other players has led to a reordering of priorities.

This change of course has been taken advantage of in Barcelona. Joan Laporta and Deco continue dreaming of dressing the Navarrese winger in blaugrana. Hansi Flick has also given the green light.

Barça Needs Prior Moves

The operation won't be easy. The club's economy is still conditioned by financial Fair Play. Before tackling a signing like Nico's, Barça must close some important sale.

But that doesn't mean they have ruled out the operation. Quite the opposite. At Camp Nou, they believe it's now or never.

The player's entourage also values this opportunity. They know that Barça is a unique showcase.  And that the team's style can further enhance his strengths.

Perfect Sporting Fit

For Hansi Flick, Nico Williams would be the ideal piece in the attack front. His ability to open the field and his imbalance in one-on-one situations are virtues the German coach seeks. Moreover, he knows La Liga well and wouldn't need adaptation.

Barça only has three pure wingers in the squad. And one of them, Raphinha, could leave if a good offer comes. That's why reinforcing the wing is a priority.

Sharing the attack with Lamine Yamal is another point that excites Nico. They both complement each other well. Youth, speed, and dribbling to bring back Barça's best offensive version.

Decision Made

The player has considered all options. Saudi Arabia also knocked on his door. Even PSG inquired about his situation.

But Nico Williams wants to continue growing in elite European soccer.  He has chosen to stay in Spain. His destination, as he has already communicated to his entourage, will be FC Barcelona.

Once the blaugrana club unlocks its economic situation, the operation will accelerate. Everything is well on track. Nico has already said "yes" to Barça.
