Neither Bayern, nor Liverpool, nor United, De Jong Already Has a New Team: Goodbye Barça for €60M

The Dutch midfielder once again sparks the interest of a European giant

Frenkie de Jong is having a good season at FC Barcelona. Under Hansi Flick's direction, he has regained his best form and has established himself as one of the team's pillars. His ability to manage the pace of the game makes him a key piece.

In recent months, he has added quality minutes both in the League and in Europe.  Although injuries have affected him at times, he has proven to be indispensable when he is at one hundred percent. His current level has caught the attention of several big clubs.

One of those teams has already moved decisively. According to recent reports, an offer of 60 million euros has been made for his signing. A proposal that, although not yet official, has set off all the alarms at Camp Nou.

Barça: Renew or Sell

Frenkie de Jong's contract expires in 2026. Although there is still time, the management knows they can't be complacent. If they don't renew soon, the Dutchman could force his departure next year, when only one season remains on his contract.

Laporta and Deco want him to stay, but they are also open to listening to proposals if an agreement is not reached. The club's financial situation forces them to consider all possibilities. Frenkie has a high salary, and his sale would ease the accounts.

On the other hand, in midfield, Barça has high-level alternatives. The return of Pedri, the emergence of Fermín López, and Gavi's consistency allow for a reliable replacement. If a very strong offer comes in, the club could seriously consider his departure.

A Clear Plan from England

The interested team sees De Jong as the ideal organizer for their project. His style fits perfectly in a league where the pace is high and the pressure constant. Additionally, his international experience and maturity make him a natural leader for any locker room.

In that club, they believe his signing would mark a turning point. They are looking to rebuild their squad after a disappointing season and want a complete midfielder capable of leading the offensive transition and closing spaces in defense.

The idea is for him to arrive as an undisputed starter from day one.  Therefore, they are willing to improve his salary conditions and offer him a long-term contract. The goal is to close the deal before the end of the European Championship to avoid bidding wars with other teams.

Everything Is in Barça's Hands... and Frenkie's

For now, Barça has not replied to the proposal. Nor have they started talks to renew, although it is expected that they will sit down to talk in the coming weeks. Everything will depend on the club's economic priorities and the player's willingness.

Frenkie is focused on finishing the season well. He knows the team is still fighting for titles and doesn't want distractions. However, his future will be one of the big topics of the summer.

The team that has put those 60 million on the table is none other than Chelsea. The London team, led by Enzo Maresca, wants to build a new project with De Jong as the main piece. Barça, meanwhile, will have to decide whether to fight to keep him... or if it's time to let him go.
