Joan Laporta has made a move, while FC Barcelona is enjoying a dream season with the arrival of Hans Dieter Flick, which has resulted in a new treble. But the president isn't standing still and is planning the 2026 elections, for which he has already admitted he will run. Although many thought Julián Álvarez or Alexander Isak would be the main targets, the blaugrana board has another name in mind.
Even though the striker hasn't had his best season in England, his quality is beyond any doubt. He remains one of the most fearsome strikers on the planet; his tremendous physical power, goal-scoring ability, and youth make him the ideal replacement for Robert Lewandowski. The Polish footballer has already hinted that his time at Barça is coming to an end, and the Catalan club doesn't want to wait any longer.

Knowing he needs an exciting figure for his re-election, Laporta has set his sights on the former Borussia Dortmund player, but the operation won't be easy at all. It's estimated that the Norwegian's release clause is around €175 million (about $190 million) starting in 2025, and his salary is within reach of very few. However, from Camp Nou offices, some formulas are already being studied to balance the books and attract the striker with an ambitious and competitive project.
Lewandowski knows the end is near
At Barça, they know that signing the striker would be a global game-changer. Laporta already tried in 2022, when he held several meetings with his agent, the late Mino Raiola, and with the player's family circle. In the end, the forward chose the Premier League, but the door has never been completely closed; his desire to play in LaLiga could end up working in Barça's favor.
Lewandowski himself, whose contract ends in 2026, understands that his time as a starter is coming to an end. Although the Polish footballer has kept good numbers, the club needs freshness and dynamism at the front of the attack. Betting on him not only guarantees goals but also a new offensive identity. Laporta sees him as the new symbol of Barça post-Messi, alongside Lamine Yamal.
Laporta dreams of Guardiola and Haaland
Obviously, the president wants to sign Erling Haaland and pair him with a familiar face for the fans: Pep Guardiola. The return of the Catalan coach is also on the club's radar, and although his contract with City ends in 2025, there still isn't an official decision. A joint project with Guardiola and his star would be the ultimate electoral weapon for Laporta.
For now, neither Julián Álvarez nor Isak are in pole position. Barça prioritizes quality over quantity, and Haaland's name is the one setting the roadmap. The club has already started discreet moves, contacting the player's entourage and exploring financial formulas, even with new sponsors.
The Norwegian, who isn't ruling out a change of scenery after several years in England, is open to an adventure in Spain. Barça, despite its economic problems, is working to make what would be the most high-profile signing of the next decade a reality. The bomb is already underway.
