Barça's sporting management, together with the coaching staff, keep shaping the first team's roster under Hansi Flick's leadership. Although the club's priority is still bringing in young profiles like Nico Williams, options with top-level experience have also emerged to strengthen certain positions on the field. This is not surprising: in the offices, they have defined a clear roadmap, which involves rejuvenating the roster, reinforcing key positions, and ensuring financial balance.
In this context, the imminent arrival of Athletic Club's winger has marked a turning point. With Nico Williams as the main offensive priority, other operations have been affected. In particular, it has closed the door to profiles that had been considered as secondary alternatives to complete the Barça attack.
Operation discarded, he already has a team
One of the names that have been removed from the planning is Ivan Perisic. The Croatian winger, currently at PSV Eindhoven, was suggested as a possible reinforcement by Flick himself, with whom he coincided at Bayern Munich. However, Barça haven't made progress in negotiations and have decided not to make any offer for him.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Perisic has chosen to renew with PSV. The agreement includes two more seasons, confirming that his continuity in the Netherlands is a firm choice. Despite his remarkable performance, the player was never seen as a structural addition within the new blaugrana project.
No place in the planning
The decision responds to both sporting and financial logic. Barça already have multiple options on the wings: Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Ferran Torres, and soon Nico Williams. Therefore, adding another veteran striker would have overloaded the roster and made salary management more difficult.
Flick, although he valued Perisic's experience, has understood that the club prioritizes giving space to young players with potential and room for improvement. The Croatian was seen as a complement, not as an essential piece. In a context of limited resources, they have chosen to keep the course set.
The stage of testing profiles like Perisic is now behind. The club's goal is to close deals like Nico Williams's and properly register the key players of the project. Flick and Deco remain aligned in their vision: every spot on the roster must contribute both now and in the future.
