After concluding the qualifying phase of the new Champions League format, we already know how the standings have turned out. Barça will advance as second among the 36 teams that have played this preliminary phase in league format.
Every victory is worth gold
The culé team has emerged victorious in six of the eight matches played. Thanks to those six matches, Barça will receive 12.6 million euros (13.3 million dollars); since each victory means a bonus of 2.1 million euros (2.2 million dollars). In addition to the victory bonuses, 18.2 million euros (19.2 million dollars) must be added, which all clubs will receive simply for participating in the Champions League.
Another 11 million euros (11.6 million dollars) must also be added, which Barça is already guaranteed for reaching the round of 16. Another 2.1 million euros (2.2 million dollars) are included for finishing among the top 16.
If we add it all up, Barcelona is already guaranteed about 44 million euros (46.4 million dollars). But this doesn't end here; UEFA will distribute bonuses of 275,000 euros (290,000 dollars) that will multiply depending on the position in the standings. Having finished in second place, Barça will receive 9.6 million euros (10.1 million dollars).
Television and sponsor
The club's income could increase from television rights and sponsors, which thanks to the new competition format will better remunerate the participating teams. The exact amount that Barça will receive will be known at the end of the competition.
We know that the amount will be based on sports results, compared with those of the teams from their country over the last five seasons (22.4 million euros or 23.6 million dollars). The coefficient ranking of the last ten years (11.7 million euros or 12.3 million dollars) will also have to be taken into account.
Adding up all the amounts, we can estimate that Barcelona will obtain a total of about 90 million euros (94.8 million dollars) at the end of the season thanks to the Champions League.
A different Barça
The top European competition has been one of the club's weak points in recent seasons. Fortunately, this season has been different, and Barça will be greatly rewarded economically as we have seen, but also in the sports section. By qualifying within the 'top 8,' Flick's team will not have to play the round of 32, advancing directly to the round of 16 and increasing their chances of lifting the desired 'big-eared' trophy.
